A fire that broke out at a commercial establishment in the Dam Street area of Colombo on Monday afternoon has been contained, the Fire and Rescue Services Department said. Ten fire engines and a team of 30 firefighters were deployed to bring the blaze under control.

The Department said authorities confirmed the spread of the fire had been “successfully contained,” NewsFirst reported. The commercial building is located near the Dam Street Police Station in central Colombo.

Further details on the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire have not been disclosed. There were no reports of casualties at the time of publication.

The scale of the response — 10 engines and 30 personnel — is among the largest single-incident deployments by the Colombo Fire Brigade in recent weeks, following a 20-shop blaze that destroyed traders’ stocks at Manning Market in Peliyagoda on Saturday, which required four engines, and an Air Force helicopter water-bombing operation at the Karadiyana garbage dump in April.
