Dialog Finance PLC has launched a next-generation Virtual Debit Card on the Genie mobile app, which it describes as the first service in Sri Lanka to let customers generate multiple virtual cards within a single application for distinct purposes.
The cards operate on the UnionPay International network and allow users to set customisable spending limits, track transactions in real time, and delete individual cards once a specific use has concluded. Dialog Finance said the product is designed to make online payments safer and more flexible for mobile-first users who want to ring-fence subscriptions, travel bookings or merchant-specific purchases on separate cards.
Tap-to-Pay functionality over NFC-enabled devices is expected to be added, enabling contactless in-store payments directly from the Genie app.
“This launch strengthens our position as Sri Lanka’s leading fintech provider,” said Dialog Finance PLC Chief Executive and Director Nazeem Mohamed.
Dialog Finance is a licensed finance company regulated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and operates as a subsidiary of Dialog Axiata PLC. Fitch Ratings has assigned the company a national long-term rating of AA(lka), which Dialog cited as reflecting its financial stability and governance.
The launch arrives as the government accelerates its push toward cashless payments, with the LankaQR merchant fee temporarily waived through April and the President convening bank heads earlier this month to accelerate QR-based retail payments.
