A fisherman has died after two fishing boats collided and capsized in waters off Mannar in the early hours of Tuesday, April 15.

Both vessels sustained significant damage in the collision. One fisherman was initially reported missing after his boat overturned. A search operation conducted by fellow fishermen at the scene located the victim, who was found dead.

A second individual injured in the incident is currently receiving treatment at Mannar Hospital.

The Mannar Police and officials from the Department of Fisheries are conducting further investigations into the circumstances of the collision.

The incident comes during a period of heightened maritime activity off Mannar, where the Sri Lanka Navy recently seized an Indian fishing vessel operating in Sri Lankan waters on the same day.
