A 26-year-old man has died after falling from a moving bus near Makuluwa Junction in Galle on Friday night, Newswire reported on Sunday.

The victim, a resident of Galle, was travelling on a bus running from Galle Harbour to Udugama on the night of May 15 when the incident occurred. He was admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital with serious injuries but later succumbed.

Police arrested the driver of the bus in connection with the incident. Sri Lanka Police said Galle Harbour Police were continuing investigations.

The death adds to a long-running concern over passenger safety on private and state-owned bus services in the south, where overcrowding, unsecured doors and rapid acceleration at stops have been repeatedly cited in fatal-fall incidents on routes serving the Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts.
