A clash broke out during a second-round match of the Hatton League Mayorβs Cup football tournament at the Hatton Dunbar Play Ground, forcing officials to halt play.
The incident occurred on Saturday (July 11) during the match between Young Mates FC and Norwood Sunrise FC. According to reports, the altercation began with about seven minutes remaining, at which point Young Mates FC was leading 3-1.
As tensions escalated on the field, several spectators entered the ground, leading to a physical confrontation. Following a complaint lodged with the Hatton Police, officers responded promptly to the venue and brought the situation under control.
In the aftermath, Norwood Sunrise FC reportedly requested that the remaining seven minutes of play be completed at a different venue, citing the prevailing situation. The tournament organisers are expected to make a decision on the matter in due course.
