A 29-year-old school teacher died in a motorcycle accident on the Kala Wewa–Ipalogama Road on Monday (July 13), police said.
The two men were riding from Kala Wewa toward Ipalogama when the rider lost control of the motorcycle, according to police. The vehicle veered off the road and collided with a roadside tree.
The teacher, who was riding the motorcycle, died in the crash. The second man travelling with him was injured and admitted to the Dambulla Hospital.
Ipalogama Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
The death adds to a persistent road-safety toll in Sri Lanka, where motorcycle riders account for a large share of traffic fatalities each year. Police have repeatedly urged riders to reduce speed and wear helmets, particularly on rural roads lined with trees and other roadside hazards.
