Iran’s armed forces have warned that a resumption of conflict with the United States and Israel is “likely,” saying there is evidence Washington is not committed to any agreements or treaties.
In a statement carried by Fars News Agency, senior military official Mohammad Jafar Asadi said recent US conduct suggests a lack of commitment to diplomacy. “The actions and statements of US officials are primarily media-driven aimed first at preventing a drop in oil prices and second at extricating themselves from the mess they have created,” he said.
Asadi added that Iran’s armed forces are “fully prepared for any new adventures or foolishness from the Americans.”
The military command’s intervention is qualitatively distinct from the diplomatic track, where indirect proposals are still being exchanged. President Donald Trump on Friday said he was dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal, describing the Iranian leadership as “very disjointed” and saying Tehran was “asking for things that I can’t agree to.” Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran remained ready to pursue diplomacy if Washington abandoned its “excessive approach, threatening rhetoric and provocative actions.”
There was no immediate US response to Asadi’s remarks. The April 8 ceasefire that paused the two-month-old war remains formally in force, but the Strait of Hormuz stays closed and the US Navy is enforcing a blockade of Iranian crude exports.
