Jaffna Kings will play Lanka Premier League Season 6 under new ownership after Indian sports company Sports Commune was unveiled on Friday as the franchise’s new operator.
Sports Commune is led by Manjot Kalra and Mayank Goel. Kalra, the company’s co-founder, is a former professional cricketer based in Delhi who now runs the Second Innings with Manjot Kalra podcast and has built a post-playing career around sports development and athlete-focused digital content. Goel, the other co-founder, is the founder of Softsecure Infotech and the insurance broking firm Shree Dhyan, and has supported youth cricket tournaments and corporate cricket leagues.
The new owners said they will focus on building a disciplined, modern franchise and on investing in youth sporting talent, with plans to develop a wider South Asian platform for players, fans and commercial partners around the Jaffna Kings brand.
“Sri Lanka Cricket welcomes Sports Commune as the new ownership group of Jaffna Kings for Lanka Premier League Season 6. Jaffna Kings has built a strong identity within the league, and we are pleased to see committed owners with a clear interest in cricket, youth engagement and sports development stepping into the franchise,” LPL Director Samantha Dodanwela said. The franchise will continue to operate within the league ecosystem run through Innovative Production Group FZ LLC, the tournament’s commercial partner.
Further announcements on squad strategy and player confirmations will follow ahead of the player auction.
The Jaffna handover is the second franchise change unveiled in two days. On Wednesday, Sri Lanka Cricket announced Gallant Sports and Media as the new Galle franchise, rebranded as the Galle Gallants under former international Pubudu Dassanayake. SLC also confirmed Friday that LPL 2026 will run from July 17 to August 8 with Jaffna and Galle — the 2024 champions and runners-up — meeting in the opening fixture at the SSC in Colombo.
The franchise refresh follows a busy administrative cycle for the league, which has revised its Icon-tier eligibility rules and opened foreign-player registration earlier this month.
