Siblings Methika and Binuthi Jayasinghe created a unique record at the All-Island Under-20 Basketball Championship held from April 8 to 11, with each winning the Most Valuable Player award in their respective divisions.
Binuthi Jayasinghe, representing Holy Family Convent Colombo in the girls’ category, scored 25 points in the final to lead her team to the title and claim MVP honours. Remarkably, she competed at Under-20 level despite being an Under-17 player.
Her brother Methika captained the St. Joseph’s College Colombo boys’ team to victory, earning MVP recognition for “exemplary leadership and consistent performance.” He holds an impressive record of never losing a championship match in his age category.
Both siblings serve as Youth Captains for their respective teams, and their parents previously represented Sri Lanka in basketball — making this a family sporting legacy spanning generations.
The dual achievement reflects what organisers described as “dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence” from both young athletes.
