Two workers were injured when part of a six-storey building collapsed in Kandy, police said.

The partial collapse occurred on Sunday (24), according to Ada Derana. The two workers caught in the incident sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

The exact location within Kandy, the building’s use and the cause of the collapse were not immediately available. Police said investigations were under way to determine what brought down the section of the structure.

The incident renews attention on building safety in the Kandy district, where authorities have previously acted against scores of unauthorised constructions in residential areas.
