State-owned retail chain Lanka Sathosa has reduced the prices of 11 essential food items with effect from July 24, in a move aimed at easing pressure on household budgets.
The price cuts were introduced on the instruction of the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, and apply at all Lanka Sathosa outlets across the country.
Lanka Sathosa said consumers will be able to buy the selected essential items at the revised, lower prices islandwide, and that a full list of the new prices was issued separately.
The retailer, which operates one of the largest state grocery networks in Sri Lanka, is periodically directed to adjust the prices of staples as a tool for regulating the cost of living. It follows earlier rounds of reductions in June, when the chain cut prices on several batches of essential goods.
