LAUGFS Power has completed commissioning and grid connection of a 2MW mini hydropower plant at Polpitiya, Ginigathhena, the company disclosed to the Colombo Stock Exchange.
According to the market filing, the plant was synchronised with the national grid on March 26, 2026 and was formally acknowledged by the National System Operator on April 29. The project was developed and implemented through PAMS Power (Private) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of LAUGFS Power.
The company said the plant is expected to add renewable generation to the grid. LAUGFS Power shares rose 1.72 percent to Rs. 11.80 following the disclosure.
The commissioning lands amid a broader push for distributed renewable capacity. NSO acknowledgements are required before commercial generation begins under standard power purchase arrangements. Sri Lanka’s hydropower-dominated renewable mix has come under stress this year as reservoir levels have fluctuated, raising the relative value of small run-of-river additions that come online ahead of the southwest monsoon.
The Ginigathhena unit adds to a pipeline of small-scale generation projects that have continued to reach commissioning despite delays elsewhere in the sector. WindForce, the country’s largest listed pure-renewable developer, recently secured an IFC loan tied to battery storage, while Cabinet has separately approved a 150MW wind-plus-BESS project at Kondachchi.
