A 23-year-old Malaysian national has been arrested by Sri Lanka Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake after officers seized cocaine worth approximately Rs. 90.8 million, NewsFirst reported.

According to Customs, 1 kilogram and 816 grams of cocaine were found concealed in the suspect’s luggage during an operation carried out on Saturday morning by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit.

Following preliminary investigations, the Narcotics Control Unit handed the suspect and the seized drugs over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.

The arrest is the latest in a series of cocaine seizures at the country’s main airport. Customs officers had detained an Angolan woman the previous night over a separate cocaine consignment, underscoring the continued use of BIA as a trafficking route into Sri Lanka.
