The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka on Saturday extended the closing date for submissions under the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) Expression of Interest process to July 9, giving prospective investors an additional month to prepare and submit comprehensive proposals, Newswire reported.
The Cabinet Appointed Negotiation Committee (CANC) granted the extension. Under the revised timeline, the issuance of EOI documents will close at 2:00 pm on July 8, and the deadline for the submission of proposals will be 2:00 pm on July 9. The original closing date was June 9. Proposals will remain valid for 120 days from the new closing date — until November 5 — while proposal guarantees must remain valid for 150 days, until December 5.
The opportunity was issued by the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation on behalf of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL), the state-owned operator of MRIA. The process seeks proposals to utilise the underused resources at the Hambantota airport, which has been the subject of recurring monetisation talks since it was completed in 2013 but has struggled to retain regular scheduled passenger services. AASL began the global EOI roll-out earlier this cycle and held an investor workshop on May 22 to walk prospective bidders through the asset register, lease arrangements and the regulatory perimeter governing the airport.
