A house in the Naeboda area of Matugama came under gunfire on Saturday (July 11), police said.
According to police, a group of individuals arrived at the residence and opened fire during the day. Investigators suspect that a T-56 assault rifle may have been used in the attack. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify those responsible. The use of a military-grade automatic weapon in a residential shooting is likely to sharpen concern over the circulation of illegal firearms, which authorities have targeted in a series of recent operations.
