Lanka Metro Transit has introduced revised routings on two of its principal corridors from Thursday, adding eight new stops to improve commuter access on the Makumbura–Colombo and Makumbura–Kadawatha services, Newswire reported.
On the Makumbura–Colombo route, the four additional halts are Kalalgoda Junction, NAITA (Rajagiriya), Ayurveda Junction and Hedges Court. On the Makumbura–Kadawatha route, services now also call at Delkanda, Orion City–Dematagoda, Thorana Junction and Mahara Junction.
The operator said the expansion was aimed at easing daily travel for passengers commuting to work, education and other purposes, while strengthening connectivity across key urban areas.
The route revision is the latest in a sequence of operational changes since Lanka Metro Transit began ramping up service this year. The agency rolled out a new GPS-enabled live tracking system through its LMT Go app on June 1, and earlier signed an agreement with Indra Traders to deploy 104 new air-conditioned electric buses on city routes. Work has also been continuing on a new metro bus depot at Kadawatha to support the expanded fleet.
