A cab carrying National People’s Power (NPP) Galle District Member of Parliament T.K. Jayasundara collided with a three-wheeler at Dunghena in Galle on Saturday afternoon, injuring two people, police said.

The accident occurred at around 2:00 p.m. on May 17 and left the three-wheeler driver and his 8-year-old son injured. Both were admitted to the Elpitiya Base Hospital for treatment.

Police arrested the driver of the cab involved in the collision and took the vehicle into custody pending further inquiry. The cab is reportedly registered under the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.

The MP was not driving at the time. The crash adds to a heavy weekend road-safety toll on Southern Province routes, following a fatal Galle bus passenger fall at Makuluwa Junction on May 15 and earlier multi-fatality crashes during the Avurudu travel week in April.

Police have not disclosed the circumstances that led to the collision or whether any traffic violations have been flagged. Investigations are ongoing.
