Police arrested two suspects in separate operations in Peradeniya and Colombo, seizing heroin and crystal methamphetamine (βIceβ), Sri Lanka Police said.
Officers from the Peradeniya Police Station arrested a 28-year-old resident of Peradeniya on Saturday (July 12) after intercepting a motorcycle near the town on a tip-off. They recovered 400 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 150 grams of heroin, along with the motorcycle allegedly used to transport the drugs.
Separately, officers from the Coastal Police Station raided a location at Hinniappuhamy Mawatha in the Coastal Police Division the same day, arresting a 17-year-old resident of Colombo 13. Police seized 119 grams and 680 milligrams of heroin from the suspect.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Peradeniya Police and the Coastal Police respectively. The seizures come amid a sustained nationwide anti-narcotics drive; police detained an βIceβ dealer in Puttalam a day earlier, part of a broader crackdown under which authorities have reported record drug-related arrests this year.
