Two people, including an elderly woman, died in separate suspected murders reported from the Pitigala and Tissamaharama areas, police said.
In the Horangalla area of Pitigala, a 60-year-old man was killed after being attacked with a sharp weapon. The incident is believed to have occurred following a dispute that escalated between two individuals, police said. The suspect, who also sustained injuries during the attack, was arrested and admitted to Aluthgama Hospital.
In a separate incident, an 88-year-old woman was found murdered inside a residence in the Gamunupura area of Tissamaharama. Multiple cut injuries were observed on the victim’s body, and the suspect or suspects involved have not yet been identified, police said. The deceased was identified as a resident of Gamunupura.
Investigations into both incidents are continuing.
