The Sri Lanka Police is preparing to launch a mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms designed to enhance public access to police services, Newswire reported.
The project is being driven by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya and will be accompanied by a newly developed official police website, according to a statement from Police Headquarters.
Through the app, users will be able to receive updates, news, photographs and videos published by the Police Media Division, with urgent information delivered via push notifications. The application will also provide access to police clearance report applications, emergency contact numbers and location-based alerts during critical situations.
Technical development, support and maintenance will be handled by the Police Information Technology Division, while the software has been developed by private firm Vampior Design Software Development (Pvt) Ltd. Content management will sit with the Police Media Division.
A progress review meeting was held at Police Headquarters chaired by the IGP and attended by Staff DIG Roshan Dias, DIG for Research and IT Nishani Seneviratne, SSP K.G. Laksiri Geethal and Police Media Spokesperson F.U. Wutler, along with company representatives led by Managing Director Asanka Bandara.
The app is the second public-facing digital tool the police force has flagged this month. The Police on June 16 launched a QR-code-based community feedback portal and have separately rolled out an island-wide online fraud crackdown under the new IGP.
