The Horana Headquarters Police have launched an investigation after the Chairman of the Millaniya Pradeshiya Sabha, Saman Sujeewa Jayathunga, complained that he had received death threats through an anonymous telephone call.
According to police, the complaint was lodged after an unidentified person contacted the Chairman’s mobile phone at around 1.00 a.m. on Wednesday (July 15) and threatened to kill him before dawn.
After receiving the call, the Chairman alerted the police emergency hotline, prompting a team of officers from the Horana Headquarters Police to visit his residence and record a formal complaint.
Police said technical investigations are underway to trace the person behind the call by examining the relevant telephone number and call records. Steps have also been taken to ensure the safety of the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Horana Headquarters Police.
