President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the headquarters of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya in Wellawatte on Sunday morning and received blessings from the Supreme Mahanayake Thero, Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithree Murthi Mahanayake Thera, the Presidential Media Division said.
The Maha Sangha led by the Mahanayake Thera chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the President, wishing him strength and courage to carry out his future responsibilities and to build a prosperous country, according to the PMD statement.
Also present at the occasion were the Acting Chairman of the Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha, Venerable Magalle Nagitha Nayaka Thera; Chief Secretary Darshanapathi Venerable Balapitiye Siriseewali Thera; and Deputy Secretary Venerable Ahangama Maithree Moorthi Nayaka Thera, alongside other senior monks.
The President also held a discussion with the assembled Maha Sangha.
The Amarapura Maha Nikaya is one of the three principal chapters of Sri Lanka’s Theravada Buddhist clergy. The Wellawatte visit follows a pattern of presidential outreach to the chief prelates of the country’s Buddhist chapters in the period around the Sinhala-Tamil New Year.
