The President’s Fund distributed laptops worth Rs.5.8 million to 14 university students at a ceremony held at its head office on Wednesday, the President’s Media Division said.
The recipients were selected from applications submitted through Divisional Secretariats and were drawn from across the island, the PMD said. The handover took place in the morning.
The Fund said the latest tranche brings the total number of university students who have received educational equipment in 2025 and 2026 to roughly 30, at a combined cost of over Rs.9.8 million.
The scheme sits alongside other state-funded support programmes targeting tertiary education, including the recently launched 55 university hostels across 13 campuses housing 16,000 students and the UGC’s Rs.5,000 allowance scheme for disabled university students.
The President’s Fund is a statutory body that provides means-tested grants to citizens facing exceptional medical, educational or hardship needs.
