Sri Lanka’s Ransini Perera won gold in the girls’ 200 metres at the 22nd Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong on Friday, clocking 24.07 seconds to take the top step of the podium, Newswire reported.
The win is Sri Lanka’s second gold of the championship, following Tarushi Abisheka’s victory in the girls’ 1500m on Thursday.
Sadev Rajakaruna added a bronze in the boys’ 200m, finishing in 21.13 seconds and lifting Sri Lanka’s overall medal tally at the continental meet.
The Asian U20 Athletics Championships are the region’s senior age-group track and field event and a key qualifying and grading pathway for South Asian middle-distance and sprint programmes. Sri Lanka has historically been strongest in middle-distance running, but Friday’s 200m double — Perera’s gold and Rajakaruna’s bronze — adds a sprint result to a successful Hong Kong campaign.
Sri Lanka Athletics had not published an updated medal table at the time of writing.
