Restaurant prices for Fried Rice, Biryani and Nasi Goreng will rise by Rs. 25 from midnight on Thursday, the All Ceylon Restaurant Owners’ Association announced.
The Association attributed the increase to rising input costs and informed the public ahead of the change.
The hike comes one day after LAUGFS Gas raised its 12.5 kg domestic cylinder by Rs. 545 — the largest single-month LP gas movement in recent memory and a key cost line for restaurants. Litro left its prices unchanged for May, creating a Rs.1,480 gap between the two suppliers’ 12.5 kg cylinders. Most full-service Sri Lankan restaurants use commercial LP gas for cooking.
The price hike applies to dishes that have been the staples of Sri Lanka’s takeaway and shop-counter market — rice-based mains that anchor lunch and dinner menus across Colombo and the suburbs.
