The Sasakawa Memorial Sri Lanka–Japan Cultural Centre was inaugurated in Colombo on June 11, marking a new institutional anchor for cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, Newswire reported.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya attended the ceremony as Chief Guest, alongside Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, and Japanese Ambassador Akio Isomata.

The centre is expected to serve as a hub for joint cultural programmes, educational collaboration and grassroots ties between Japan and Sri Lanka. The opening falls within an active month of Japan–Sri Lanka engagement: Tokyo this week also delivered six refrigerated trucks to the Fisheries Ministry under a grant programme, and Ambassador Isomata earlier signed a UNDP-implemented project for cyclone-affected Central Province communities.
