Chandrasoma Perera, the founder of the Sathara Group and a senior editor of Sathara Publishers, has died at the age of 82, Ada Derana reported on Sunday.

Sathara Publishers, established by Mr. Perera, has been one of Sri Lanka’s longstanding Sinhala-language publishing houses, with a catalogue covering fiction, children’s literature, school readers and educational material. The Sathara Group’s print and distribution arms grew to a network spanning bookshops across the country, and the publisher remained closely associated with Mr. Perera’s editorial direction over decades.

Further details on funeral arrangements were not immediately available. Ada Derana did not provide additional biographical information at the time of publication.

Mr. Perera’s passing marks the loss of another senior figure in Sri Lanka’s commercial publishing trade, which has weathered shifts in reading habits, paper-import cost pressures and the growth of digital reading platforms over the past decade.
