Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has arrested seven people, including three Sri Lankan nationals, in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation, Ada Derana reported.
The arrests were made across separate drug-related cases involving the possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances intended for trafficking and personal use, the ministry said. The group includes three Sri Lankans, two Kuwaiti citizens, one Indian national and a further foreign national.
Seized items included approximately 2.55 kilograms of hashish, 150 grams of heroin and 20 grams of methamphetamine, along with equipment used in the preparation and packaging of illegal substances. Authorities also confiscated 6,350 Lyrica capsules, 150 Xanax tablets, 50 Methadol tablets, four precision scales and quantities of empty nylon bags believed to have been used in drug distribution activities.
One of the suspects also faces an additional charge of resisting arrest, the ministry said. All seven detainees and the seized substances have been referred to security authorities for further legal action.
The arrests fall into the broader trend of Sri Lankan involvement in Gulf-region narcotics cases this cycle, alongside the recently-broken Kuwait-airport journalist-detention case and other interdictions where Sri Lankan migrant workers have appeared on charge sheets. Sri Lanka’s own anti-narcotics operations under the “Rata Ekata” framework have continued to record escalating arrest and seizure tallies at home.
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said law enforcement authorities will continue to pursue traffickers, dealers and users with “determination” and will take firm legal action against anyone proven to be involved in trafficking, promoting, possessing or engaging in any activity related to illegal substances.
