The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers across parts of the island on Sunday (July 19), Ada Derana reported.
According to the forecast, showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
The department typically advises the public to take precautions during heavy showers, which can be accompanied by localised strong winds and temporary flooding of low-lying areas. Motorists and those in hilly terrain are urged to stay alert to the risk of reduced visibility and slippery roads.
The showers over the south-western quarter of the island contrast with warm, dry conditions reported in parts of the Northern and Eastern provinces, a pattern consistent with the south-west monsoon influence at this time of year. The Meteorology Department updates its forecasts through the day and issues separate advisories when severe weather, lightning or rough seas are anticipated.
