Two of three Kandy District organisers who recently resigned from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have been appointed as UNP organisers, deepening the cross-party realignment in the central province.

Attorney-at-Law Channa Galappatti, the SJB’s former organiser for the Teldeniya electorate, has been appointed UNP organiser for Yatinuwara. Padmalal de Alwis, formerly the SJB’s Assistant Organiser for Harispattuwa, has been named UNP organiser for Harispattuwa. Both appointments were made by UNP General Secretary Thalatha Atukorale.

Both men are former members of the Central Provincial Council. The third SJB resignee from the Kandy district, retired Major General Nissanka Ranawana of Galagedara, has not been announced for a UNP post.

Separately, Aruna Ravishanka — son of former MP Shriyani Daniel and nephew of former MP Anura Daniel — has been appointed UNP organiser for Pathahewaheta.

The appointments come days after SJB leader Sajith Premadasa publicly described the SJB-UNP electoral alliance as “effectively formed” ahead of the upcoming Provincial Council elections, with the two opposition parties expected to contest jointly. Today’s organiser swap suggests the alliance framework is now translating into formal party-organisational realignment at the district level.
