Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named its 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England, with Chamari Athapaththu confirmed as captain and the team scheduled to depart Colombo on June 3.
The squad announced Friday — first reported by Newswire — includes Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Imesha Dulani, Nilakshika Silva, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hansima Karunaratne, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Sugandika Dassanayaka, Nimasha Madushani, Shashini Gimhani, Kawya Kavindi, Malki Madara and Mithali Ayodhya alongside the captain.
The selection follows Sri Lanka’s recent home assignments against Bangladesh, where Athapaththu’s side took the WT20I series 2-0 at Sylhet earlier this month and have been working through their World Cup preparation. The team also lifted the WCT20 Asia Cup last year, entering the global tournament as the continental holders.
The 2026 edition in England carries the record prize purse confirmed by the ICC earlier this cycle, with substantial increases across the placement table. Athapaththu, who serves on the WCA player advisory board, remains the side’s anchor batter and most senior international voice.
The full schedule, group composition and Sri Lanka’s opening fixture have not yet been confirmed in the Newswire copy. SLC is expected to release the official team management and support staff list closer to departure.
Update — June 4, 2026: Athapaththu’s squad departed Colombo on Thursday for the tenth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, NewsFirst reported. Twelve teams will contest the tournament across two groups; Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B and will face hosts England in Birmingham on June 12 in their opener, before meeting New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland and Scotland over five group-stage matches.
