Sri Lanka Cricket’s former administration spent more than Rs. 681 million on legal fees and related expenses between 2023 and 2025, according to a report published by The Sunday Times.
The newspaper reported that official payment vouchers show Rs. 681.17 million was spent on legal representation over the three-year period. The cases covered included those involving former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, defamation actions filed against media institutions and journalists, commercial disputes and tax matters.
The highest annual legal expenditure was recorded in 2023 at Rs. 264.6 million, followed by Rs. 250.5 million in 2024 and Rs. 166 million in 2025, according to The Sunday Times.
The report also noted that Sri Lanka Cricket’s current interim administration has withdrawn the defamation cases that had been filed against media institutions and journalists — a reversal of one of the more contentious legal strategies pursued under the previous board.
The disclosure adds fresh detail to long-running scrutiny of governance and spending at the cash-rich cricket body, whose administration has been the subject of repeated political and legal battles in recent years.
