Former Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Chairman Sarath Kongahage and former Additional Director General Devapriya Abeysinghe were granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on April 17, following their earlier arrest and remand by the Bribery Commission.
Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered each suspect released on two personal bails of Rs. 1 million each, with an overseas travel ban imposed on both.
The case has been recalled for September 8, 2026, when a progress report on the investigation must be submitted.
The pair were arrested on allegations that six employees were recruited outside the approved SLRC cadre and assigned to the personal staff of former Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, causing financial loss to the public broadcaster. The irregular recruitments allegedly took place during the Rajapaksa administration era.
The bail decision is the latest development in a string of active accountability proceedings working through Sri Lankan courts.
