A conductor attached to the Sri Lanka Transport Board’s Teldeniya Depot has been arrested in possession of crystal methamphetamine, police said.

The arrest followed a raid by the Crime Investigation Bureau in the Teldeniya Division. Authorities recovered more than two grams of Ice from the suspect, who is a resident of Siyambalagastenna in Teldeniya.

Based on information disclosed during questioning, police also took the local drug dealer who supplied the narcotics into custody.

The arrest is the latest in a wave of mid-level drug enforcement actions linked to public-sector and private-sector workers as the Rata Ekata anti-narcotics drive continues. It compounds existing scrutiny of the SLTB, which is also under reform pressure after Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake disclosed the agency was losing Rs. 20 million daily to conductor ticketing fraud β€” a separate financial-misconduct issue from the drug arrest.
