Ten people were injured on Sunday in a road accident on the Southern Expressway near the 154th milestone on the Beliatta–Kasagala section, police said.
The car involved was carrying a group of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees from Panadura who were travelling to Kataragama when it collided with the rear of a lorry ahead of it. The lorry overturned following the impact.
All ten injured have been admitted to the Tangalle Base Hospital. No fatalities were reported. Police said further investigations are under way.
The crash occurred along the same stretch where authorities recently seized a stash of explosives at Kasagala, and follows a string of high-profile expressway and road incidents this season.
