A new national digital platform, the Sri Lanka Event Calendar, has been launched as a centralised source of information on events taking place across the country, organisers said.

The official website β€” srilankaevents.lk β€” went live on April 23 and is designed to provide up-to-date details on cultural, sporting and business events, creating a single access point for both local audiences and prospective foreign visitors.

The initiative is positioned as a tool for the tourism industry, giving travellers easier access to information on major events while also opening market opportunities for local organisers, businesses and artists. Officials said the platform should improve coordination within the events sector and help position Sri Lanka as a regional event hub.

The launch comes as the tourism industry navigates a turbulent quarter. March arrivals slowed sharply and earnings have been pressured by the Iran-Israel conflict, high airfares and reduced regional connectivity. A consolidated events calendar β€” particularly one that surfaces shoulder-season cultural and sporting events β€” is intended to help operators promote alternative reasons to travel beyond the standard beach and heritage circuits.

The platform combines event listings with promotional support and is expected to be expanded over time with translations and partnerships with destination management companies. Organisers said the project aligns with broader efforts to increase foreign exchange earnings by combining technology with local talent.

No information has been released on the platform’s operating budget, governance arrangements or how organisers can submit events for inclusion. The website is the first nationally branded digital event calendar of its kind from a Sri Lankan tourism agency.
