The body of a 19-year-old youth who went missing at sea off Tangalle has been recovered, police said.
The deceased was identified as Chamidu Dilshan, a resident of Godellawela in Tangalle. According to police, the youth had been fishing at the Mahagalagawa beach in Mawella, Tangalle, on July 9 when he was swept away by a sudden wave.
Following the incident, local residents, the Police Lifesaving Unit and the Sri Lanka Navy launched a search operation but were initially unable to locate him. On Saturday (July 11), fishermen spotted the body floating in the sea off Mawella and brought it ashore by boat.
Tangalle Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
