Two people were killed on Tuesday morning after a train collided with a three-wheeler at a level crossing between Kapuwatta and Kandana railway stations on the Puttalam line, Sri Lanka Railways said.
The Chilaw–Colombo Fort train struck the three-wheeler at the unmanned crossing, the Railways Department confirmed. Further details on the victims and the cause of the collision were not immediately released.
The incident is the latest in a series of fatal accidents on the Western Province rail network this cycle. A Maradana shunting engine derailed on May 24, and an earlier Dematagoda derailment in early May disrupted services on the same Puttalam line.
