The University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo, which was closed for two weeks due to the spread of dengue, will reopen tomorrow (July 13), the university administration has announced.

In line with the Clean Sri Lanka programme, the university premises were cleaned and fumigated on Sunday ahead of the reopening.

The closure and disinfection reflect the pressure the outbreak is placing on institutions across the country. More than 67,000 dengue cases have been reported nationwide so far this year, with 47 deaths recorded. Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) said strict legal action is being taken against individuals who allow mosquito breeding sites to remain on their premises, and have initiated action against an elderly care home in Battaramulla after larvae were discovered there.

Special mosquito control operations were carried out in several areas on Sunday as part of the intensifying prevention effort, which will expand tomorrow with a new eradication drive targeting 60 high-risk zones.
