Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar, 35, has announced his retirement from domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is expected to feature in LPL 2026, according to sources familiar with the matter cited by Newswire. Shankar said he was stepping away from domestic cricket and the IPL to pursue “new opportunities.”
LPL 2026 is scheduled to run from July 17 to August 8, with matches across four venues — the SSC Ground and R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka Cricket owns the LPL while IPG Group holds the event rights.
Shankar’s LPL participation has not yet been officially confirmed by SLC or LPL management; the Newswire report uses “expected” framing and attributes the information to sources rather than an official announcement. The tournament will feature six franchises, including the newly licensed Galle Gallants.
