Former Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa arrived at the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on Monday to record a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation, Ada Derana reported.
The broadcaster, citing its own reporter, said the appearance was in response to a formal notice issued by the FCID asking the former minister to be present and answer questions on the matter. Neither the specific case under inquiry nor the period and portfolio it relates to were disclosed in the Ada Derana report.
Mr. Wijayamuni Soysa, an Embilipitiya-based politician, has previously served as Minister of Lands and Parliamentary Reforms under the Sirisena administration and held a number of subject portfolios across earlier Rajapaksa-era cabinets.
The summons adds to the recent stream of senior figures from previous administrations being questioned by special police investigative units. In recent weeks the FCID has recorded a statement from Wimal Weerawansa’s former media secretary Prasad Manju as part of a parallel inquiry, while the Bribery Commission and the Criminal Investigation Department have been pursuing separate accountability tracks ranging from the SriLankan Airlines Airbus deal to the long-running Easter Sunday and treasury-fraud probes.
LankaNewz will update this report when the FCID or the former minister provides further detail on the scope of the investigation.
