Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath observed Australia’s Parliamentary Question Time live on Tuesday, calling the session a “vivid demonstration of democratic accountability, robust debate and the vitality of parliamentary oversight” during the Canberra leg of his New Zealand–Australia visit.
Posting on X, Herath said he was “particularly pleased” to observe the similarities between the democratic traditions of Sri Lanka and Australia, framing the shared parliamentary heritage as one of the values underpinning bilateral relations.
The Question Time observation followed the Melbourne investor pitch for Port City Colombo at the Victorian Investment Centre earlier in the trip and the Sunday meetings with Victorian MPs on trade and tourism.
Herath’s Australia visit follows the New Zealand leg, where he held bilateral talks with NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters in Wellington and met NZ Speaker Gerry Brownlee and Sri Lankan-origin opposition foreign affairs spokesperson Vanushi Walters during the broader bilateral programme.
