Travel vlogger Gaffar Musafir has drawn attention online after recovering a piece of recording equipment he accidentally left at Colombo’s Lotus Tower — only to find it exactly where he had placed it several hours later.
According to NewsFirst, Musafir had visited the landmark to film content for his social media channels and set his microphone box on a wall before removing the microphone and receiver for use. He then travelled around Colombo by tuk-tuk, filming at various locations through the day, and realised only later — when trying to repack the gear — that the box was missing.
Fearing the equipment had been lost or taken, he returned to the Lotus Tower, where he found the box untouched despite it having sat unattended in a public place for hours. Musafir said his tuk-tuk driver suggested that surveillance cameras around the area made theft unlikely.
Reflecting on the experience, the vlogger said he doubted he would have recovered the gear had the same thing happened in cities such as Delhi, or in Pakistan or Bangladesh. The story has since generated discussion online, with many users citing it as an example of the sense of safety and public responsibility that visitors can encounter in Sri Lanka.
