The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers over several parts of the island today (15), alongside gusty winds in other areas.
Showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Mainly dry weather is likely to prevail across the rest of the country.
The department also warned that strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North Central and North Western provinces, and in the Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The public has been advised to exercise caution because of the strong winds, while those in areas likely to receive showers have been urged to take necessary precautions.
The advisory comes as the island navigates an unusually dry South-West monsoon season, with the Meteorology Department separately warning of strengthening El Niño conditions expected to influence the weather in the months ahead.
