A 60-year-old man, described as a father of three, died after a bus travelling from Colombo to Talawakele collided with a three-wheeler in Yatiyantota on Sunday morning, NewsFirst reported.
The accident occurred at around 7am, when the three-wheeler was heading towards Karawanella. Two other people injured in the collision were admitted to the Karawanella Base Hospital for treatment.
The crash adds to a recent run of fatal road incidents on rural and expressway routes, including a fatal accident in Mawanella on Saturday in which an 86-year-old man was killed by his own car during a driving lesson, and follows the Transport Ministry’s announcement of a target to significantly reduce road accidents and deaths by 2029.
Police investigations are continuing.
