The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has announced that a 12-hour water supply interruption will be imposed in several areas of Mahara and Gampaha for essential maintenance work to relocate water pipelines in connection with the Central Expressway construction project, Ada Derana reported.

The supply will be suspended from 7 p.m. on Thursday (11) until 7 a.m. on Friday (12).

The affected areas are the Eldeniya, Gonahena, Webada, Sooriyapaluwa and Udupila Grama Niladhari Divisions within the Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha area, and the Parakandeniya, Kossinna, Abaraluwa, Imbulgoda and Yagoda Grama Niladhari Divisions within the Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabha area.

Residents have been urged to store sufficient water in advance.

The interruption is part of an ongoing pipeline-relocation programme tied to the Central Expressway Section 3 Phase 2 Rambukkana–Galagedara stretch that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake formally launched on May 29. The same NWSDB programme led to a similar 12-hour shutdown on May 27 across overlapping Mahara and Gampaha GN divisions.
