The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a suspect in the Dompe area and recovered more than eight kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ICE,” together with a cache of weapons and explosives, police say.
Officers said the items seized during the raid also included three anti-personnel landmines, five swords and 20 rounds of live ammunition found in the suspect’s possession. NewsFirst reported the quantity of methamphetamine at 8.5 kilograms.
The recovery of military-grade explosives alongside narcotics is unusual for a drug operation and is likely to draw scrutiny over how anti-personnel landmines — devices more commonly associated with Sri Lanka’s decades-long civil conflict — came into the suspect’s hands.
Police did not immediately release the identity of the suspect or say whether further arrests were expected. The STF, a paramilitary police unit, has been at the forefront of a sustained national crackdown on the trade in ICE, which has driven a string of high-value seizures across the country in recent months.
