A 63-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 35-year-old daughter following a long-running family land dispute in Kalutara North, police said.
The incident took place on May 4 in the Bosiripura area, where the woman was critically injured after being assaulted with an iron rod, Newswire reported. She was admitted to Nagoda Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect, her father, carried out the attack following an escalation of an ongoing dispute over land ownership. The suspect is currently in police custody, while the body has been placed at the Kalutara Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Kalutara North Police are conducting further investigations into the killing, the latest in a series of fatal domestic disputes recorded across the country in recent weeks. A man was killed with a beer bottle in Jaffna’s Gurunagar last week after a drinking-related quarrel, while a separate Wadduwa drug raid earlier this month uncovered firearms linked to underworld operations.
