Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in the Navatkuli area of Omanthai, NewsFirst reported on Monday.
According to police, the arrests include the main suspect allegedly involved in the killing along with two female suspects and two male suspects accused of aiding and abetting the crime. Three male suspects aged between 17 and 27 and two female suspects aged 20 and 23 — all residents of the Navatkuli and Omanthai areas — were taken into custody.
The victim was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon on the night before last, police said. The motive for the killing has not been disclosed and investigations are continuing.
Navatkuli is a small settlement within the Omanthai division of the Vavuniya district, on the A9 corridor linking Colombo with Jaffna. The case is one of several violent-crime incidents in the Northern Province this week; earlier in June, police remanded seven students in Vavuniya over a separate assault caught on video.
