A suspected associate of the late notorious underworld figure “Ganemulla Sanjeewa” has been arrested by Indian security authorities, with his repatriation to Sri Lanka expected shortly.
The individual, identified as “Udugampola Alaya,” a resident of Gampaha, was taken into custody by Indian security forces. He is also alleged to be involved in drug trafficking operations.
Indian authorities are expected to formally notify Sri Lanka Police about the arrest, and arrangements are likely to be made to repatriate the suspect for further legal action.
Ganemulla Sanjeewa was a prominent underworld figure whose murder in 2025 triggered a series of related arrests and investigations. The latest arrest adds to a growing list of associates being tracked down across international borders as Sri Lankan and Indian authorities deepen cooperation on organised crime and narcotics.
The arrest comes amid a broader law enforcement push during the Avurudu festive period, with police conducting cross-jurisdiction raids and deploying 8,000 officers for island-wide security.
